Homepage master prompt

A fill-in-the-blanks brief for writing a homepage — use it yourself or paste it into an AI tool to get a first draft worth editing.

About 20 minutes12 things to tick off

A homepage does three jobs in about five seconds: tell a stranger what you do, prove you can do it, and give them one obvious next step. This prompt gets you a first draft that does all three — whether you write the page yourself or hand the prompt to an AI tool.

Fill in the brackets first. The quality of what comes out is exactly the quality of what you put in, so spend your time there.

The shape of a homepage that works — five blocks, one job each

Headline, proof, three reasons, one button. Fill the brackets honestly and the draft writes itself.

1
Fill these in first

These five answers are the entire brief. If you can't answer one, that's a planning question, not a writing one — go back to the worksheet.

2
How to use it

Paste the whole template below into your AI tool with the brackets filled in, or use it as a writing brief and draft the page yourself. Either way, the output is a starting point — the editing section underneath is where the real value is.

3
Edit before you publish

A first draft — from a person or a machine — is raw material, not copy. These passes take ten minutes and are the difference between 'fine' and convincing.

The prompt — copy this
Write homepage copy for [business], which helps [customer] in [place] to [outcome].

The main action I want a visitor to take is [action]. Write:
1. A headline of under 10 words that names the outcome, not the company.
2. A sub-headline of one sentence that says who it's for and why you're the safe choice.
3. Three short benefit blocks, each with a two-to-five-word heading and one sentence, using these reasons: [reasons].
4. A proof section using only these facts: [proof]. Invent nothing — no statistics, reviews or claims I haven't given you.
5. A closing call to action that invites the visitor to [action], with button text of two to four words.

Plain English throughout. No jargon, no hype, no exclamation marks. Sentences under 20 words.
